Liter Of Light is embarking on a 100-day voyage around the world with Peace Boat, a Japan-based international non-governmental and non-profit organization that works to promote peace, human rights, equal and sustainable development and respect for the environment. In this voyage, both Liter Of Light and Peace Boat are set on crossing borders to spread awareness about their causes, with Liter Of Light focusing on addressing energy poverty.

The World Voyage

The voyage will kick off in Yokohama, Japan on December 26, 2018, and will last for almost 100 days, docking in 19 ports around Asia, Africa, and South America.

Peace Boat’s 100th Global Voyage for Peace will depart from Yokohama, Japan, on December 26 and will return on March 31, 2019 after visiting
as many as 19 ports in 13 countries. This voyage will cover a southern hemisphere route, visiting Madagascar, South Africa, Brazil and the incredible nature of Patagonia in South America. It will also visit Mauritius, Rapa Nui, Tahiti and Samoa so the participants can learn about the issues faced by the indigenous people of these islands. The joint activities with Liter of Light will constitute one of the main themes of this voyage, alongside the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Peace Boat.

On Board

During the voyage, participants will participate in different educational programs that cover contemporary global issues while at the same time interact with other participants to find creative solutions to problems that exist and affect communities around the world.

On Land

The ports is where Peace Boat builds alliances with people and organizations to spread their mission to promote peace and sustainability. Participants get to visit community wind farms, eco-villages and refugee support centers, and meet local groups such as indigenous communities, human rights organizations, and social business cooperatives.

Spreading Light

On the boat, the Liter of Light team will have the opportunity to lead workshops and teach participants how to create solar lights. These lights, along with the ones assembled in advance in the Philippines, will be delivered to communities in need in ports that will be visited in this global voyage.
