MyShelter Foundation in partnership with Architecture for Humanity_Manila is a grass-roots organization that empowers communities in the Philippines to build recycled bottles for classrooms and civic centers around the country where normal constrcution is tooo costly. Using using “eco-bricks”: plastic bottles filled with dried mud and lime these are stacked on each other with organic binders and cement. The foundation aims to transfer and enable entire communities to come together to make the dream of having community center built using recycled materials and sweat equity.
The Plastic Bottle Center is one of the many constructions done through this technique. Using 5,000 waste bottles collected and filled with the adobe mixture by the senior citizens of the City of Rizal, the team has partnered with the Mayor of Rizal, Antonino A. Aurelio and Marco Lorenzo of iMac Engineering, this first project is going to be opened on March 19, 2013, 2:00 pm.
We invite press, bloggers, visitors, and private citizens to join us as we build the first of many in the country.
